With two flagsticks, this large double green adds to the ambiance at Scotland Yards Golf Club.

"Tis like a wee bit o’ Scotland set in the gentle rolling hills of West Central Florida.”

by Joe Stine

Scotland Yards Golf Club is like a “wee bit o’ Scotland” set in the gentle rolling hills of West Central Florida. Located twenty miles north of Tampa, between Zepherhills and Dade City, it’s definitely a Florida golf course, though several of its links style golf holes are very much reminiscent of Scottish style golf links, double greens and all.
Playing conditions are always great at Scotland Yards Golf Club and it’s truly a joy to play. Its Bermuda 419 fairways and Tif-dwarf putting greens are always well maintained, and during the Winter season the entire course is generously over-seeded with Winter Ryegrass.

The high lipped bunkers that protect this green are a reoccurring theme at Scotland Yards Golf Club.

Opened in 1988, the 18 hole, par 72 championship golf course at Scotland Yards Golf Club was designed and built by its former owner, PGA professional Bill Rinaldo. Very much like the young Pete Dye, but without the railroad ties, Rinaldo was inspired by the Scottish links-style golf courses, and it shows in the shaping of the undulating greens and fairways.
The bunkers at Scotland Yards are diverse and well placed, and many of them around the greens are cut into the mounding and have exaggerated shaping and high lips, making it a challenge to get out of the sand. Many pot bunkers, waste bunker and grass bunkers also add to the ambiance that is Scotland Yards.

The two mounded bunkers above protect Scotland Yards Golf Club's #3 green.

The giant Carnoustie-like Par 5, # 3 hole, referred to as the signature hole, for the two giant mounds and pot bunkers that guard the front of the green, is the longest hole on the course at 554 yards and is rarely reached in two. Its fairways are so very much undulated that a golfer could almost getting seasick. The third shot, played from a vast deep swale, 60 to 80 yards out must be hit up to the green some 12 feet above.
Scotland Yards Golf Club is a semi-private club that’s open for daily fee play and its competitively priced green fees are considered a real golf value among the locals around the Tampa Bay area. Scotland Yards Golf Club also has a large clubhouse, a restaurant with fine dining and a cocktail lounge and overnight accommodations nearby. So, it’s a perfect spot for an affordable golf vacation in West Central Florida. Reasonably priced golf lessons are available from PGA Certified instructors at Scotland Yards Golf Club and their well trained staff always provides extraordinary customer service. Whether your looking for an excellent golf travel destination, or a day of golf on an impeccably maintained links-style course, Scotland Yards Golf Club provides memorable Florida golf experience that you will undoubtedly enjoy.

Just twenty miles north of Tampa, Scotland Yards Golf Club is set amongst the rolling hills of West Central Florida.
