Hugely Successful PGA Tournament Launches Sales at the New Trump International Golf Club in Puerto Rico

by Joe Stine

A record-shattering turnout of 75,000 spectators at the PGA Puerto Rico Open on 4/21/08 at Trump International Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, should help drive sales of the $600 million luxury residential ocean-front community, says Craig Studnicky, principal of the International Sales Group (ISG).
With avid golfer Donald Trump himself presiding over the tournament, said Studnicky, “It was a spectacular event and a spectacular setting, with the beach on one side and the mountains and rain forest in the distance. You could see a cloud of rain over the mountain late in the day but it didn’t rain on the golf course.”
Donald and son Eric Trump, along with partners Arturo and Jorge L. Diaz of Empresas Diaz -- and Miss Puerto Rico Universe Ingrid Rivera -- unveiled stunning model residences just completed for the project. Spread over one thousand acres between the Caribbean Sea and the El Yunque tropical rain forest on Puerto Rico’s northern coast, the golf complex and luxury community will have 500 residences centered on a spectacular 36-hole gold course designed by former U.S. Open Champion Tom Kite.
The first phase consists of 56 Founders Residences, with an approximate starting price of $1.5 million. The first residents will become part of the Founders Club, an exclusive community that will allow its residents to enjoy superb benefits, including preferred tee times and access to elite services such as a private jet, helicopter and limousine service – not to mention other amenities such as the resort's Beach Club, numerous pools, a gourmet restaurant and outdoor cafe, a five star spa and fitness facility, pro-shops, tennis courts, kids club, and much more.
“This is clearly going to be a world-class resort,” said Donald Trump. “ISG did a great job selling the Trump Ocean Club in Panama, and we see similar great results coming from ISG here in Puerto Rico.”
Trump tested the course personally with his Vice-President of Strategic Development Lawrence Glick, Empresas Diaz, Jorge L. Diaz, and Tom Kite -- the PGA legend who designed the course. "We know many people turned up to the tournament and to visit the model residences because of the Trump name. Simply put, Trump and Golf equals excellence," said Sales Director Eduardo Cofresi. During the tournament, visitors were able to experience the sophisticated lifestyle and luxurious amenities the development will offer. Trump was also extremely pleased with the property itself. "I never had a project with so much ocean-front... no matter where you look, there are beautiful water views."
The PGA Puerto Rico Open was a first for the island, held the same weekend as the Doral Open in Miami – and outdistancing its crowds. Two former British Open champions, Ben Curtis and Tom Layman, played the course. “The golfers found the greens perfect,” said Studnicky. “There was a little wind from the ocean, but that only added to the challenge.”
"Trump International Golf Club Puerto Rico is different than any previous endeavor from the Trump Organization. This is one of the top golf courses and most beautiful landscapes in the entire Caribbean with the unique aspect of being on U.S. soil," said Eric Trump who is leading the development. "The PGA Tournament served as the ideal platform to debut this one-of-a-kind project to such an important audience."
