The Golf Around the World booth at the 2006 PGA Merchandise Show
The 2006 PGA Merchandise Show In Orlando, Florida By Joe Stine
Summer 2006 Florida Golf Magazine ©Copyright 2006, All Rights Reserved

Each year near the end of January, The PGA Merchandise Show at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando serves as the kickoff for the golf industry's season, and this year's Show was a memorable one, with more solutions than ever before to help expand participation, grow the game, and enhance careers. As a result, there were many exciting elements to this year's Show, including
The PGA of America Awards, along with an expanded indoor Equipment Test Center, the PGA Employment Center, the Pro-Pro Series, Demo Day, the Travel Pavilion and more than 100 Education Conferences and best practice roundtables.
With more than 1,200 exhibitors occupying literally acres of floor space, it was hard to see the entire plethora of offerings on hand that week.

Indoor Golf Range at the Equipment Test Center (ETC)
The Equipment Test Center (ETC), the country's largest indoor equipment test center, features a scalloped design of some 40 hitting bays, two putting greens, an elevated chipping area and the ETC Stadium - a demo area complete with grandstands for product presentations and professional instruction. This massive indoor golf range offered show-goers the opportunity to test the best equipment from leading manufacturers during all four days of the Show.
The annual PGA Merchandise Show is like a giant supermarket designed specifically for club pros and similar golf facility buyers. If it's related to golf, then you can find it at the PGA Merchandise Show. We walked through the show and made a shopping list of the golf products.

At the (ETC) Indoor Range, we spotted the #8 female from the 2004 ReMax Long Drive Championship, Leanne Quinn testing irons.

Bob Burns Golf
The No Bananas Driver at Bob Burns' Golf Booth at The Show
Bob Burns, a master golf professional, has been recognized for more than 40 years, for his teaching, club fitting and club manufacturing. Burns recently designed a new driver that's heralded by many in the golf industry as a sure cure for the common slice. Appropriately named the No Bananas Driver, it's touted as the ultimate fix for slicers.

No Bananas 430cc Driver
Finally, The Ultimate Fix For A Slice

If you want to snuff the life out of an unrelenting slice, and you think it would be easier to fix your clubs, than fix your swing, the No Bananas Driver is made for you. Its anti-slice technology can eliminate the slice from your game forever.

Eighty to ninety percent of golfers tend to fade, push, or slice the ball off the tee. Primarily, two factors cause a slice. The clubface remains open at impact, or the swing path is outside-in.

Instead of focusing on one drastic measure to neutralize the conditions causing the slice, the heads of Burns' No Bananas Drivers use a combination of slice-fighting features including a hosel offset geared to help square the face through impact, a 5 degree closed face, and extra weight in the toe, which Burns says encourages the face to close.

The amount of left-to-right spin imparted on the ball decreases dramatically, and the result is straighter, more accurate shots. The two-inch deep, incredibly thin face achieves maximum trampoline effect, while conforming to the USGA legal COR limit. Available in both offset and non-offset 430-cc forged titanium head models, the exclusive No Bananas Driver is guaranteed to help slicers hit longer and straighter. It comes with a Magilla Gorilla head cover. No Bananas fairway woods, No Bananas port-weighted hybrids and irons also are available with oversized heads and anti-slice technology.

The 430cc No Bananas driver is now available in Left-Hand. Right Hand Models are NOW available in 9* and 12* degree lofts

The bottom of the heads are clearly marked with the words "Anti-Slice Technology" so there's never any question as to what type of club you're holding, as with most adjustable weighted woods. The No Bananas Drivers have no adjustable weights. The No Bananas Drivers are made to help slicers.

No Bananas Fairway Woods
These stainless steel fairway woods feature a compact design with subtle offset while the 3 wood is two degrees closed, the 5 wood is one degree closed and the 7 wood is square. This simple technology make these clubs easy to hit for the low handicappers as well as the high handicappers. Weather you push, slice or fade these woods will make a great compliment to a No Bananas driver and your game. Available: Right Hand only Lofts: 3 wood = 15*, 5 wood =19*, and 7 wood = 24*

No Bananas Irons

The Bob Burns No Bananas Irons offer the best game improvement features combining distance and accuracy.

No Bananas irons are designed to incorporate interchangeable heel and toe weighting. With this technology, two weighted screws (one in the heal and one in the toe) can be changed out with heavier or lighter screw options. With choices of screws made of aluminum, brass, stainless steel or dense tungsten, golfers have a choice of tuning the moment of inertia (MOI), or the weight bias of each individual iron in the set.

No Bananas Irons allow golfers of all skill levels generous options to modify both swing weight and variable center of gravity specifications to achieve specific flight patterns.

Depending on the degree of push or fade, slice weight screws with heavier masses of density in the toe area than heel will correct mis-hits.

Interchangeable heel toe weighting is complemented with an offset hosel construction to help square the clubface and promote ultimate draws bias flight dispersion.

The wide contoured, cambered sole and deep, cavity back provide the ultimate sweet spot area for consistent, pure shots. The low deep, center of gravity influences a higher launch angle with increased distance.

The Volvik Golf Ball booth at the 2006 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando

Made for a wider range of swing types, Volvik’s 3 piece construction ProsPect suprised the industry with 1st “affordable” urethane cover ball.

Volvik flexed its Research & Developement muscles at the 2006 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando and released a new three piece construction ball, with a soft urethane cover. Its 70 compression core offers penetrating ball flight for a wider range of swing speeds, while its multi-layer construction gives it amazing feel and control around the greens.
The Pro’sPect Z-Urethane is a 70 compression premium golf ball. With urethane balls entering the ultra premium market at prices in the high 30-40 dollar range Volvik’s MSRP at $34.95 will likely find prices at street level in the $30 range.
Volvik is shaking up the market again with the Pro’sPect. This new ball will offer the average golfer a chance to play a premium technology golf ball for not much more than the price of an entry level ball. Amateur golfers are looking for a better golf ball that fits their swing speed, not their pro’s swing speed.
FLGolf, Inc. President Chuck Womer said, “The unique 70 compression will go a long way to fit what we believe is the swing speed of our target market. Slower swing speed translate to more control. A golf ball fit to that swing speed will perform better than a harder construction golf ball. A ball that stops on the green, even on less than perfect shots, is what our talented amateur, slower swing speed customers, have asked for.
Volvik never rests. The Industry has long held Volvik in high esteem for their manufacturing prowess. With the public now aware of Volvik due to the success of our original Crystal ball, expect to see more demand for Volvik products at retail and green grass this season.

Not so very long ago Volvick was called ‘the new kid on the block’ but now as an established retail name, Volvik is poised to expand it’s market base.”

The New Innovative Volvik PRO-3PC Golf Ball

Volvik, once again brings their advanced technology to the market by introducing their Crystal Pro 3 piece golf ball at the 2006 PGA Merchandise Show.
The Crystal Pro 3 piece is an 80 compression golf ball aimed at the golfer who is looking for more performance and distance.
The high energy solid core which made Volvik famous in the industry is coupled with a bismuth mixed outer core. The cover is a translucent soft surlyn just like its’ 70 compression cousin. The premium manufacturing processes involved in the three piece construction will elevate the Crystal Pro above the competition.

While at the 2006 PGA Merchandise Show, in Orlando we were asked by a sales rep at the SoloRider booth if he could give us some information about the Americans with Disabilities Act [ADA] and how it applies to golf courses? We said, "Heck yes, if it affects golf courses, then we want to know about it". He then also gave us some information about the economic value of single rider golf cars.

As we listened to him, it became evident to us that this gentleman and his colleagues were doing more than selling America's leading single rider golf cars. They were doing everything within their power to "grow the game" by making golf accessible to mobility challenged golfers including seniors.

SoloRider - Single-Rider Golf Car,
When is one seat better than two? SoloRider answers the question, "when it keeps golfers in the game".

Long after some golfers [seniors] lose the mobility and stamina they once had, they dream of continuing to play the game they love. SoloRider is turning those dreams into reality for thousands of golfers who are enjoying the safe, comfortable and fun way to get back in the game.

SoloRider Means New Accessibility for a Golfer

Mobility challenged golfers don't have to be left behind. Paraplegics, stroke survivors, and amputees can experience the game for a lifetime.

To enable golfers including seniors to continue to enjoy the game of golf, the SoloRider is a golf car that has these features:

  • drive onto greens and tees with no negative turf impact
  • drive over rough terrain with confidence
  • easily enter and exit the car using the 350 degree swivel seat
  • play from the car using the elevating seat, and
  • easily handle the steering, acceleration and braking with ergonomic hand controls

Added value for golf courses

(See "Opportunity In Disguise" on page 18)

SoloRider answers the question, "How do I keep current players and bring new players into the game and do both cost-effectively?" With SoloRiders in the golf car fleet, a golf course will:

  • extend the golfing lives of many seniors,
  • attract mobility impaired golfers [estimated to be 1.2 million mobility impaired golfers in the U S]
  • add incremental resort revenue from mobility impaired vacationers and business travelers and,
  • use the SoloRider for singles, threesomes, fivesomes or as a ranger car

When you think as if you are disabled, it's easy to understand why the SoloRider single rider golf car is considered such a necessary and truly great golf product.

F2 - Face Forward Shank Proof Wedges
It's impossible to shank the ball with this club's recessed hosel.

The F2 Wedge may look unconventional, but as soon as you hit it, you'll know why it is the biggest jump in short game technology since the invention of the sand wedge!

F2 stands for Face Forward technology. As you can see in the picture (at right), with this ingenious design, the face has been moved forward and the hosel back, enabling the ball to strike and leave the clubface before grass or sand can grab the hosel and twist the clubface.

The F2 Series Wedges are available in a 52 degree Gap Wedge, 56 degree Classic Wedge, 58 degree Plus Wedge and a 60 degree Lob Wedge.

They sell for $99 each when bought separately, but you can purchase a full set for less on-line at their website at www.F2golf.com. to order call: 800-476-0507
